Gameday case

Part 1

UNC enrolls more than 28,000 students, of which 5% are student-athletes. UNC is one of the 15 member schools belonging to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Other ACC member schools include Duke University, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, the University of Virginia and Wake Forest University to name a few. UNC has enjoyed significant success with their athletic programs, especially with their revenue-generating programs such as basketball and football.

In 2012, for example, the UNC basketball program earned a profit of $17 million [5]. As of fall 2011, UNC had won 40 NCAA team championships in six different sports. These include 21 NCAA championships in women's soccer, six in women's field hockey, four in men's lacrosse, five in men's basketball, one in women's basketball, and two in men's soccer. The Men's basketball team won its 5th NCAA basketball championship in 2009. Some of the most talented basketball players impacted the UNC basketball team during the 1995 through the early 2000s. Former athletes such as Rasheed Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse, Jeff McInnis, Vince Carter, Antawn Jamison, Ed Cota, Ronald Curry, Julius Peppers, to name a few, are considered UNC icons [6]

And we never can forget about Michael Jordan. Jordan made the game-winning jump shot in the 1982 NCAA Championship game against Georgetown to secure the championship. After three years playing at UNC under legendary Coach Dean Smith, Jordan joined the Chicago Bulls in 1984.
